Dimple Cuzzort Smith passed away peacefully on January 5, 2024 after a short illness. Up until her death, Dimple maintained her kindness, grace, compassion, love of family, friends and her church. A life that was fully lived.
Dimple's life can best be encapsulated by five words: Family, Friends, Flowers, Food and Faith. In her 91 years here with us she experienced an abundance of each.
Dimple spent her early years in Beach City, Texas, living with her parents, Gladys and Warren Cuzzort and sister Shirley Cuzzort Wainscott. She was a graduate of Barbers Hill High School and worked as a sales clerk until her marriage. She met her husband, Kenneth Smith, Sr. while attending Cedar Bayou Baptist Church. Dimple and Kenneth maintained a loving and supportive marriage founded in faith for 62 years until Kenneth's passing in 2013. Together they raised two children, Ken (Tracy) Smith and Mike (Sarah) Smith. Throughout this time, Dimple excelled in creating a beautiful and gracious home which was comfortable for her growing family. The crowning glory for Dimple was the arrival of grandchildren: Danny (Sarah) Smith, Meagan Smith, Matt Smith, Sam Smith and Winter Smith and later great grandson Ben Smith. Dimple delighted in everything about her role as a grandmother and great grandmother and took on the name of "Meemaw" to signify her role. She made it a point to be as engaged as possible with her grandchildren. From babysitting, to sewing, cooking and gardening for them. Dimple delighted in her grandchildren as much, if not more, than she delighted in raising her children.
Friends: Dimple cherished her friendships, developing them at each stage of her life, with most of these lasting the remainder of her life. At the time of her passing, Dimple still had friendships that she developed as a young child between church and school. From phone call chats to family outings, to sharing meals and entertaining, to adventures near and far, to helping in times of sadness and difficulty, Dimple was up for it all. She was known not just for enjoying her friendships but for being a good friend as well. She was the friend who you could call upon in time of need. Dimple knew that friendships, like gardens, take work to maintain and she was willing to put in the effort, thus got to reap the rewards.
Flowers: Dimple's passion for flowers was evident in anyone who stopped by their home. She inherited many of her flowers from family members and knew where each one was planted throughout her yard. She became an avid and accomplished gardener who took joy in sharing both her knowledge and plants with friends and family to enjoy in their homes. She kept a garden for years and taught her sons and grandchildren the joy of canning and cooking what you grow.
Food: Dimple was known for being a fine cook. She delighted in preparing tasty food to share with her family and friends! Dimple was known for her bread and sweet rolls. She graced the church until shortly before her death as a member of the bereavement committee where she enjoyed making meals for families that had suffered a loss. Dimple could be counted on to cook something amazing and delicious because it was always prepared not only with her vast skill, but also with boundless love. It was always a treat to sit at her dinner table!
Faith: Dimple was raised in church and has called Cedar Bayou Baptist her church home since 1948. She served as church secretary and librarian for several years before passing the torch in order to enjoy her grandchildren. She had a deep faith and a personal relationship with her Savior. When anyone graced her doorstep, they would find an open Bible next to her chair where she read daily. When the children were small, Dimple would read from the Bible every morning before school and prayed with them each night; giving them the foundation they would need for life. She treasured her church family as much as her own family.
Dimple was a gem of a person who appreciated all that life gave her. Even in her advanced years near the end of her life, she quickly made friends in her assisted living facility, where she was known as a helping friend to fellow residents. Dimple quickly became a favorite of the staff and residents of Mount Battenhouse. She maintained a beautiful inviting living space that felt like home.
Dimple would express how grateful she was to have lived a long life full of wonderful experiences as well as a loving family, many good friends and compassionate care givers. She truly embodied the adage of a life well lived.
