David married Nancy Mickel after returning from the Vietnam War in 1966. They started their married life as house parents in San Antonio for the Mexican Baptist Girls' Home. David worked in many industries over his life, including being a licensed barber, delivery route driver, and security guard for San Jacinto Mall and Bay Coast Hospital. He was best known for his sparkling blue eyes and kooky sense of humor. He would go out of his way to make people smile and was generous to a fault, even to perfect strangers. He loved music and sang in the church choir and painted ceramics as a hobby.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Merle Mickel. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Mickel; his daughter, Gera Lynn Schultz and husband, Michael; his son, Gregory Mickel and wife Belinda; brothers, Conrad Mickel and wife, Jerry, and Charles Mickel and wife, Jenny; sister, Pat Warner and husband, Tom; granddaughters, Elizabeth, Samantha and McKenzie Mickel; grandsons, Nickolas and Clay Schultz as well as a host of relatives and friends.
