Dana Gay Smith

Dana was born and raised in Baytown along with time spent with her family in Thessaloniki, Greece and Union Town, Kentucky. She earned an Associates Degree in Nursing from Lee College. She was profoundly impacted by the Beatles. She loved their music and was at Hobby Airport when they landed for their first trip to Houston.

Dana married Gary Smith on September 14, 1979. On October 1, 1981, her son, Brett Smith was born. She chose to stay home and raise Brett until he started school. They moved from Baytown to Texarkana, Galveston, Greenville, Baytown, and Corpus Christi prior to settling in Richmond, Texas.

Dana enjoyed the time with her sister, Tena. They often took trips in the Spring to search for bluebonnets, see the Hill Country, and visit Louisiana. They took their long-awaited trip to Ireland together to experience the sights, sounds, and people there.

Dana was preceded in death by her mother and father. Dana is survived by her son, her husband, and sister, Tena Burgess of Baytown.

Through her life she cared for her furry friends, including Fritz, Lady, Hop and Drop, Brandy, Sparky, Oliver, Bear, Shadow, Mr. Whiskers, Jezabelle, Kitty Kitty, Halley, Dora, Jonesy, Domino, Figaro, Bogey, Bacall, Buddy, and Rowan.

Dana was able to draw quick and accurate opinions. She held her friends and loved ones close.

In lieu of flowers, Dana's family asks that donations be made to the animal welfare groups Cuddly (cuddly.com) and SHAHS (superheroandzeke.com).
