She attended elementary school at Cedar Bayou and graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1952. She attended Stephens College in Columbia, MO where she received an AA degree. She then attended The University of Texas at Austin where she received her BS degree. She received her Master of Education degree from Prairie View A & M.
Cynthia loved to travel. Her beginning interest in travel started as a little girl stopping at all the highway history markers across Texas and on family trips throughout the United States. In 1953, she began a grand tour of Europe starting in London with the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II and war torn Europe. She continued her travels yearly to all continents except Antarctica and Australia. She drew from her travels to impart strong social studies to her students.
Cynthia's real love was for her profession, teaching and her students, many of whom are now teachers. She was a lifelong member of the Christian Church, Disciples of Christ. She belonged to numerous social sororities and many professional, educational associations.
She was preceded in death by her parents and is survived by her brother, Dr. James Moore and wife Rose Marie of Baytown; sisters, Elizabeth ""Libby"" Moore of Baytown and Melanie Moore Ellison and husband David R. of Katy; nephews and nieces, David Houston Ellison and wife Caroline, John David Moore and wife Mary, Catherine Ellison Landua and husband Paul, James Silas Ellison and wife Claire and Lisa Ellison Kenny and husband Bill; great niece, Kensey Landua; and great nephew, Colton Landua.
Her family will receive friends at Navarre Funeral Home Tuesday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Wednesday, December 10, 2008 at 3:30 p.m. at Navarre Funeral Home with Rev. Bob Dees and Rev. Nicholas Antle officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be Conrad Magouirk, Bob Andrews, Reggie Ethridge, Byron Jones, Ward Roberson and David M. Kadjar. Honorary pallbearers will be H. W. Kilpatrick, M.D. and Don Faust.
In lieu of usual remembrances, contributions may be made to the Cynthia L. Moore Scholarship Fund at Lee College, P. O. Box 818, Baytown, TX 77522-0818.
