CWO4 Robert D. Harwell, U. S. Coast Guard (Ret.), 78, of Mont Belvieu, TX was born January 26, 1933 in Brownwood and passed away Wednesday, September 7, 2011 in a Houston hospital. He served in the U. S. Navy during the Korean War and retired from the Coast Guard in 1980. He was a member of the Baptist faith and the Mt. Juneau, Alaska Masonic Lodge #147.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Martha Harwell; brothers, Charlie, Wayne, and Dale Harwell; and sister, Birdie Mae Bilbrey. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Wanda Harwell of Mont Belvieu; daughters and sons-in-law, Terry and Jerry Thurman of Baytown and Donna and Mike Navarre of Dayton; brother, Bobby Harwell of Brownwood; sister, Doris Faye Hutson of Bowie; grandchildren, Kelli Johnson of Crosby, Brian and Stacey Stidham of Humble, Heather and Mike Poston and Michael and Jami Navarre, all of Baytown, and Lauren Navarre of Houston; and great grandchildren, Justin, Tyler, Kati, Brenden, Taylor, Joe, Allie, Kaylee and Addyson.
His family will receive friends at Navarre Funeral Home Friday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Graveside services with military honors will be Saturday, September 10, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Palms Memorial Park in Dayton with Rev. Danny Biddy officiating.
Serving as pallbearers will be Jerry Thurman, Mike Navarre, Brian Stidham, Michael Navarre, Justin Herrera, and Tyler Richardson.
