Charles Buz Mitchell

He retired after 27 years from GCCISD where he touched many young lives as a teacher at Pumphrey Elementary School. His former students and coworkers knew him best for his lime green car and his love of students. His free time was spent visiting with friends and family, dining out, listening to music and traveling. He loved to watch all sports and collect sports memorabilia. He served his country as a Staff Sgt. in the U. S. Army for more than 7 years during which he spent time in Korea as an operating room tech.

Buz was preceded in death by his father, Charles H. Mitchell, and his mother, Kathryn H. Mitchell. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Garrett Mitchell of Baytown; daughter and son-in-law, Allison and David Carsey of Baytown; granddaughters, Graceanne (Mac as he called her), Ella, and Caroline Carsey of Baytown; first wife and life long best friend, Judi Mitchell of Baytown; sister and brother-in-law, Sharon and Neal Guthrie of Stephenville, TX; step son, John Garrett of Baytown; step daughter, Mishelle Garrett of Baytown; step grandchildren, Bryce and Brooke Garrett, and Avery Garrett of Baytown; niece, Tysha Dunavant and family of Wimberly, TX; nephew, Glen Guthrie and family of Bruceville, TX; and numerous cousins and friends as well.

Buz's family will receive friends at Navarre Funeral Home Monday from 5:00 – 7:00 P. M. Funeral Services with military honors will be at 10:00 A. M., Tuesday, March 4, 2008 at Navarre Funeral Home officiated by Brother Bill Yowell of First Baptist Church of Baytown. At his request, he will be cremated afterwards.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Glen Guthrie, Trent Dunavant, Rick Riggs, Mike Lee, Clyde Fuller, Bob Beulow, Sam Sanchez, John Garrett, David Carsey, Neal Guthrie, and Steven Stutes.
