With his family close by his side, Cecil Anderson Settle, age 91 years, entered Heaven’s gates on Thursday, May 19, 2016. He was born in Houston, Texas on April 12, 1925, to Willis Reuben Settle and Loo Sarah Babcock.
Cecil managed two Phenix Dairy stores in Houston for a little over six years. Leaving the dairy to join the Army in August 1943, he was squad leader and served in WWII, Southwest Pacific operations. He was presented with the good conduct medal, combat infantryman badge along with three bronze stars and one arrowhead. Leaving the Army with an honorable discharge in February of 1946, he returned to the dairy and worked another four years before starting his career in civil service. He worked as a letter carrier in Baytown, Texas for 35 years before retiring to Shepherd, Texas, where he was a longtime resident.
While Cecil was working at the dairy, he hired Bill and they became good friends. When Cecil bought a house in Baytown, Bill rented a room from him. When Loo, Cecil’s mom became unable to care for herself, Cecil, with the help of Bill took her in and cared for her until her death. Cecil loved her very much as well as his siblings.
He is preceded in death by his parents; Willis Reuben Settle and Loo Sarah Babcock Settle, Sister; Ellis Maud Settle, brothers; Willis Oliver Settle and Jesse Dayle Settle. Cecil was the youngest of four children.
Cecil is survived by brother; Charlie and wife Eunice Weede, nieces; Misti and husband Joey Dillon, Erika and husband Doug McReaken, nephew; Kimball Weede, cousins Arveda and Don Ray, Clarence and Senay Payne, nephew Ken and wife Jill Grau, and numerous close friends. Cecil had a love for animals and people. He was friendly to everyone he met and touched the hearts of many around him, never saying a harsh word. Never a complaint. His sense of humor brightened everyone’s day. He never married and has no children. Cecil passed away in Pearland, Texas. He will be buried next to his Mom and Bill at Memory Gardens Cemetery, 3919 Garth Road, Baytown, TX 77521
