Carolyn Smith, age 73, passed away July 18, 2016 after a two year battle with cancer at her home in Baytown, Texas. Carolyn was born October 9, 1942 in Baytown, Texas to R.R. and Melba Dickerson. Carolyn and Michael Smith were married over 50 years, and other than a short stint in Louisiana, spent most of their life with their children in Baytown, Texas.
Carolyn was a devoted wife and mother who was a true example of how to welcome and love all of the people around her, family or not. Carolyn loved to garden, paint, and travel and was known for her excellent cooking, parties, and get-togethers that would put Martha Stewart to shame. She founded and ran a Montessori School for over 20 years, where she was loved and respected by students and teachers alike.
Carolyn is preceded in death by her father R.R. Dickerson, her mother Melba Dickerson, and her sister Sandy Dickerson. Carolyn is survived by her husband, Michael W. Smith; children, Stacey S. Bird and husband Gary Bird, Steven W. Smith and wife Kibby Smith; grandchildren, Kasey Bird, Amanda Liles and husband Thomas Liles, Kalie Smith, Destiny Newman, Kourtelynne Smith, Kelly Bird, Kouressa Smith, and Steven Smith; great grandchildren, Wyatt Liles and Vincent Newman; special cousins and numerous other family members.
Her family will receive friends at Navarre Funeral Home Thursday, July 21, 2016, beginning at 1:00 p.m. with a Celebration of Life to follow at 2 p.m. Burial to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
