Dowler and Dolly Bertha Hudson. The Family moved to Baytown in August of 1961. Burney was
an Eagle Scout, and he loved his time on Robert E. Lee High School’s football team Suicide
Squad. After graduating from Lee, Burney immediately went to work for U.S. Steel; and after a
lifetime in the petrochemical industry, he retired from H.B. Zachary.
Burney was known for his tremendous heart and a need to help others. Throughout his life,
Burney participated in many organizations and charities. He was a member of First Presbyterian
Church where he served as a Deacon and Elder. He loved his time with the Houston Livestock
Show and Rodeo BBQ Cookoff and the Baytown Livestock Show. He coached Special Olympics.
He was very proud of his work with Kids Harbour and he was a member of the Houston
Corvette Club. He even rode all the way to Alaska on his Harley as part of the Iron Butt Rally.
He was proud of his service with the Bay Area Community Emergency Response Team.
Burney was an avid musician and anyone that knew Burney can picture him playing his guitar –
sometimes in Luckenbach. More recently, he liked to putter around his backyard garden and
spend time with family and friends. He loved baking homemade bread, making cookies for the
grandkids and teaching them how to sew, paint, fish and build bird houses.
