Bobby was born to Eugene and Edith Gwin in Houston, Texas, on a hot and balmy Texas day in 1942. He graduated from Channelview High School as a short and fast basketball player. Bet you didn’t know that one!
He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force right out of high school. Because he was an amazing typist, he didn’t see the front lines. What a blessing! Guess who met on a blind date and been together ever since!
While in the service, Bob married Doris Dixon. Bob and Doris raised two children over the years, Pam and Kevin.
Bob is survived by Doris, his wife of 62 years. (Almost made 63.) He is also survived by his daughter, Pam; son-in-law Perry Sheppard; and his grandson, Nolan Sheppard. He is also survived by sister-in-laws, Fay Smith and Audene Dixon, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and many loving extended family.
Bob was preceded in death by both his parents; his son, Kevin; and many other relatives and friends.
Bob was a long-time employee of Lubrizol Chemical in Deer Park. Hope we all have retirement of over 20 years!!!
He enjoyed all types of traveling, including cruises. He enjoyed pool with all his buddies at the senior center in Mont Belvieu and everyone’s garage game rooms! He also enjoyed antique automobiles of every make and model and everywhere he could look at one; a garage, side of the road, car lot, car shows. EVERY SINGLE CAR!!! And he could always remember when passing an old car, exactly where it was located for later. Ask Doris.
He was an avid member of the Bayshore Fine Rides of Baytown. He loved a good car show and showing off his cars, his pride and joy! Bob also enjoyed cruising in the old car to senior homes and showing off the antique cars to young people and getting them excited about fine automobiles. And he didn’t
mind taking them for a ride with the top down and the wind blowing through his silver hair and Doris’s (whatever color she was that week).
He always made it to anything that had to do with veterans’ and children’s causes. He loved piddling in his workshop and helping others in any way possible.
A Celebration of Life is scheduled for this Friday, March 28th, 2025, at Navarre Funeral Home, 2444 Rollingbrook Dr., Baytown, Texas 77521. 281.422.8111. 3 P.M. Mickey Bertrand, a long-time friend of Bob, will officiate the ceremony, along with John Mueller, pastor of Mont Belvieu 1st Baptist Church, the church Bob and Doris have been attending.
The family requests that everyone dress casual, NO BLACK. The family would also like to thank First Responders and all the wonderful doctors and nurses and everyone else involved in his care over the past week for their wonderful care and graciousness through this trying time. Bless all of you for your amazing care.
Thanks, everyone, for loving Bob so much. We appreciate each and every one of his friends and extended family. Please keep the family in your prayers.
