Billie Jo Manis, age 103, of Baytown, Texas, passed away at home on July 2, 2022. Billie was born in Navarro, Texas on November 14, 1918 to Joseph and Mallie Greenup. She was married to Ralph H. Manis for 73 years.
Billie Jo was a long time member of Second Baptist Church. She was an avid card player (Skipbo, Rummy, Spades) and was an excellent seamstress and crocheted beautiful pieces. Billie Jo loved her coffee time with friends and family. She was “famous” for her Pumpkin Bread, Fried Pies, Congo Squares, and Pea Salad! Her door was always open and she spent her time volunteering and helping others when she could. She was recognized in a Baytown Sun article as an unsung hero for her volunteer work with area nursing homes, helping with craft projects.
Billie Jo is survived by her daughter Virginia Fortier and son-in-law Lee Fortier; daughter Joan Harrison; grandchildren Melinda Drake, Joanie Woolsley, Joe Harrison and wife Lily, James Harrison, Chris Hankinson and wife Deb, Shelby Sheehan, Leslie Fortier and husband Josh, Joe Fortier and wife Deanna, Rachel Manis-Hyatt and husband Dustin; 15 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren; as well as many extended family members and friends.
A memorial service will be held at Earthman Funeral Home on July 30, 2022 at 11:00 am with a reception to follow the service from 12 to 2pm to celebrate Billie Jo’s life.
