Bea Anderson Carter was born January 17, 1924, in Crowley Louisiana, to Ernest and Pearl Laughlin, the fourth of five children. The Laughlin family moved to Texas when Bea was 5 years old, making their home in Barber’s Hill. She graduated from Barber’s Hill High School in 1942 and enjoyed participating in sports, especially basketball and being a member of the drum and bugle core. Her senior year, Bea was voted “cutest” and “best dressed”.
In September 1942, Bea married the late Don Anderson and had a daughter, Dian. The Anderson family enjoyed vacationing with good friends to an annual destination of New Braunfels, Texas. Also, Bea’s sisters and cousins spent many a Sunday at her mom’s house having lunch and playing Rook. Bea was an avid bowler and on a league with her sister, Butch Greer, niece, Ginny Knowles, and good friend Nan Botkin. She won many trophies through the years. She has been a member of Cedar Bayou Baptist Church for over four decades and enjoyed playing cards and dominoes with her friends at the church.
Bea worked at O’Briens for many years. Then, she managed an apartment complex until the passing of her husband Don. She then worked for Citizen’s Bank until her retirement. In 1978, Bea married Hugh Carter. They enjoyed traveling and made many trips to Europe. Another hobby they loved was watching, cheering and following the Houston Astros. Hugh and Bea loved hosting Christmas Eve for their family until Hugh’s passing and her declining health.
Bea has been the matriarch of her family for many, many years. They rally around her like no other. Words to describe Bea are spirited, feisty, very active, kind-loving, and humorous.
Bea is preceded in death by her two husbands Don Anderson and Hugh Carter, her parents Ernest and Pearl Laughlin; sisters Butch Greer and Billie Smith; brothers Johnnie Laughlin and Warner Laughlin.
She is survived by; daughter Dian and husband Bill Jones; and her two grandchildren Doug and Donya.
