Annie Zuelar Haywood was born November 18, 1922, to Azrie Lee Jackson and Jimmie Gladys Lattimore in Lone Oak, Texas and was baptized at an early age at New Hope Baptist Church. She attended Booker T. Washington School in Vernon, Texas and united in marriage to Elmo Haywood September 23, 1939. To this union, 5 sons were born.
When she moved to Amarillo in 1957, she united with Jenkins Chapel Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and was in the mission ministry. Annie was also a long-time care giver to her mother, Jimmie, and after her passing, decided to move to Baytown to be closer to her family in 1994. Shortly after moving to Baytown, she united with Mt. Calvary Baptist Church and was a member of the mission ministry and Seasoned Saints group. Mama Haywood, as she was affectionally called by loved ones, loved going to mission workshops and shopping at dollar stores.
Mama Haywood departed this life on July 19, 2023, reaching 100 years on earth before transitioning to her new permanent home in the presence of the Lord, Jesus Christ. She is preceded in death by 2 sons, Dwayne (Santa Monica, CA) and Charles (Sydney, Australia) Haywood. She is survived by three sons, Lee Haywood (Rose), Elmer Glenn Haywood (Beverly) and John Haywood. She also had 13 grandchildren living in various countries. The Texas grandchildren are Cynthia Haywood, Derek Haywood (Tracy), Dena Walker and Joaquin Mackey. Great grandchildren are Kendall Haywood, Emerson Haywood and Kayla Walker.
