Amparo Nuñez, 87, of Baytown, Texas, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 13, 2025. She was born in Progreso, Honduras, to Esteban Nuñez and Maria Inez Ortiz. Though she faced early loss and hardship, she lived with quiet strength, resilience, and unshakable faith. Amparo worked faithfully in housekeeping services at Rutgers University until her retirement in 2004.
She found joy in life’s simple and sacred moments—spending time with her children and grandchildren, staying active with her YMCA family, and worshiping with her beloved church community. A woman of deep wisdom and bold spirit, she was known for her unwavering devotion to God. Her favorite Scripture, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13), wasn’t just a verse—it was how she lived her life.
Amparo was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, and her beloved son, Jose Carlos Zelaya. She is survived by her children and their families: Rodolfo Zelaya, Nora Zelaya, Victor Manuel Zelaya, Norma Zelaya, and Giselle K. Hernandez.
Above all, Amparo loved God and taught her children and grandchildren that He is the only way to truly live—and that Jesus is the only way to the Father. Though she began life as an orphan, she remained anchored in God’s promises. Even in her final days, she did what she loved most—praising the Lord. Psalm 150 was her song, and her legacy of faith continues to unite and inspire her family.
In both life and death, Amparo Nuñez bore witness to the power, love, and saving grace of Jesus Christ. Her story lives on in the hearts of those she leaves behind—rooted in the same enduring faith that carried her home.
