Amelia Jane Davis, age 89 of Baytown, Texas passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 21, 2004 at her home. She was born on September 18, 1915 in Lufkin, Texas and was a long time resident of Baytown. She began working for Humble Oil in the early 1940s and was one of the first ladies to work “in the field” as a secretary. She retired as an executive secretary from Exxon in 1976.
She was preceded in death by her husband Edwin T. Davis and two brothers, Hampton Herbert and Robert Herbert. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Ernest and Beverly Hauser of Baytown; stepson and daughter-in-law E. Ted and Sallie Davis of Houston; stepdaughter Gray Davis Boone of New York; grandchildren Karla Hauser Oppermann, Dr. Will Davis and Thad Davis of Houston, Kenneth Boone of Alexander City, Alabama, Martha Cobbold of Knebworth House, Hertfordshire, United Kingdom and Buford Boone of Quantico, Virginia; and six great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Dorothy Wilder of Houston; brother and sister-in-law Herbert and Virginia Herbert of Baytown; sisters-in-law Louise Herbert of Waco and Betty Herbert of Sibley, Louisiana; and dear friend Ailene Pennington of Baytown.
Her family would like to thank her care giving team of Marylene Williams. Susan Harris, Bonnie Cox, Nancy Gaytan, Linda Smith and Barbara Robelia for their loving care.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, December 29 at 2:00 p.m. at Navarre Funeral Home in Baytown with Rev. Thomas Hill officiating. The family will receive visitors immediately following the service.
