William G Webster Sr., age 88, died after a short illness in Baton Rouge on Friday, December 15, 2017. Mr. Webster is survived by his devoted wife of 14 years, Audrey McClain Webster, and her son Chris, of Duson, LA. Also surviving him are his son, retired Army Lt General Glenn Webster Jr, and wife Terry, of Pensacola, FL; his son, retired Fire Captain Stanley Webster and his wife, Sandra, of Pride, LA; his daughter, Terry and her husband, retired Police Captain, Kerry Clark, of Central, LA; and his daughter Mary, and her husband, retired State Trooper, Marty Babin, of Denham Springs. Mr. Webster also leaves behind 10 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. He was very proud of all of them. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 54 years, Irene Thompson Webster, of Baton Rouge, who died in 2002. Mr Webster was born in 1929 in Lafayette to parents William S. Webster and Alice Roberts Webster. He attended Catholic High School of Baton Rouge and worked for Standard Oil and Exxon for over 30 years. He joined the LA Army National Guard at 17 and served for more than 32 years, with several years of active duty. He retired in 1984, at the rank of Sergeant First Class. Mr. Webster was a good family man, marrying Irene Thompson in 1948. Constantly serving others, he was involved in many organizations over the years and was a parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church. He belonged to the Knights of Columbus, the American Legion, and several veterans’ groups. He enjoyed local politics, having run for office several times, and was currently serving on the City Planning and Zoning Commission of Walker, LA. Webster was also past President of the Walker Rotary Club. He enjoyed sports, playing adult softball and golf for many years. His handsome wood carvings gained notoriety in many art and craft exhibitions, and he enjoyed riding motorcycles. His family and friends will always remember him as a good husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Visitation will be at Green Oaks Funeral Home, on Thursday, December 28 from 6-8 p.m., and on Friday, December 29 from 9-10 a.m. The funeral service is scheduled at Green Oaks funeral home and cemetery at 10 a.m., on Friday, December 29, 2017.
