Virginia Alello Youngblood was born to Frank and Lena Alello on August 13, 1935, in Baton Rouge, LA, where she spent her entire 88 years with her beloved family until she passed away on July 11, 2024. Virginia was brought into this world alongside her twin sister, Rosalie, and they remained inseparable through the years of love and loss, traveling, baking, playing video games, and raising amazing children together. Traveling and playing video games were two of Virginia’s favorite pastimes. As soon as she could drive, Virginia became the neighborhood taxi service, happily taking friends and family to appointments and to run errands. Though she was known for her quick wit and sharp tongue, she was also known for her love and support for her family, as well as her devotion to God and her church, Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church.
Virginia is survived by her daughters, Patricia Rice (Frank) and Elizabeth Youngblood Shelton; sons, Noel Youngblood (Glenda) and James Youngblood; twin, Rosalie Wascom; grandchildren, Ryan (Astrid) Rice, Frank (Angela) Rice, Daniel (Courtney) Rice, Lauren (Ryan) Ruckel, Allison Youngblood, Antonio (Lynette) Shelton, Nicholas Shelton, Alexander (Rebecca) Shelton, and Jonathan Shelton; 10 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews she loved as her own. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Billie Youngblood.
A visitation for Virginia will be held on Sunday, July 14, at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 5-8 pm, and it will continue on Monday, July 15, at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church at 9 am until funeral Mass at 10, conducted by Father Jason Palermo. Burial will follow at Blackwater Methodist Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ryan Rice, Frank Rice, Daniel Rice, Antonio Shelton, Nicholas Shelton, Alex Wascom, and Jonathan Shelton. Honorary pallbearer given to Alexander Shelton.
Special thanks to Audubon Hospice for all the care they provided for Virginia.
