Verna Jane Wilcox Dickey, born Feb. 8, 1916, in Rockford, Ill., passed away on Monday, Oct. 13, 2008. Preceded in death by her mother, Jenny Olson Wilcox; father, John Wilcox; brother, James Wilcox; loving husband, BonDurant Mast Dickey; daughter, Carole Anne Dickey; and son-in-law, Judge Wilson R. Ramshur. Survived by her son, Craig BonDurant Dickey; daughter, Colleen D. Ramshur; grandson, Bradley Craig Dickey; granddaughter, Constance Babette Vlahos and husband Tom Vlahos; and great-grandchildren, Charlotte Jennifer Vlahos, Christopher Daniel Vlahos, Nicholas Alexander Vlahos and Eric Matthew Vlahos. Also survived by her loving family friends, Marica Broussard, Daron Ford, Austin Zachariah Butterworth, John Taylor Butterworth and Blake Gex Butterworth. She was a retired teacher/librarian with 20 years of service in the East Baton Rouge Parish school system. She attended Shimer College and LSU, where she received a bachelor's degree, a master's of education and a master's of library science. She was a member of the St. Francisville United Methodist Church. Pallbearers will be Christopher Daniel Vlahos, Nicholas Alexander Vlahos, Eric Matthew Vlahos, Austin Zachariah Butterworth, John Taylor Butterworth, Blake Gex Butterworth, Daron Ford and Louis Neyland Smith. Honorary pallbearers are Harold Bahlinger, Peter Bahlinger, Zach Butterworth, Michael Hesse and William Smith. Funeral arrangements include visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Wednesday, Oct. 15, from 11:30 a.m. until the funeral service at 1:30 pm. Interment will follow the funeral ceremony at Greenoaks Memorial Park. Ministers attending will be the Rev. Harold Babin, the Rev. Mike Clark and the Rev. Danny Gleason. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
