Dr. Tommy Tuttle Stigall

Tommy passed away on October 15, 2023, and was 89 at the time of his death. Tommy was born in Danville KY and was a 64-year resident of Baton Rouge, LA. Tommy was preceded in death by his parents Thomas Jefferson and Bertha Pauline (Tuttle) Stigall. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Constance Carolyn (Bankston) Stigall. He is also survived by his two children Lisa Edmunds and Stuart Stigall and their spouses John and Lisa. Additionally, grandchildren Hannah and Gregory Edmunds and Matthew Stigall. His two siblings Dr. Robert Stigall, wife Athea and Elizabeth Lynn Peck, husband Willie, all of Danville, KY also survive him. Tommy graduated from Danville High School in 1952, and then graduated from Baylor University in 1956 both with Honors. He received a BA in Speech - Radio Journalism. While in high school and at Baylor he participated in ROTC. In 1958 he earned his MA in Counseling Psychology from Baylor. Shortly after, Tommy joined the United States Air Force. While in the Air Force he participated in numerous research projects and earned many commendations. He achieved the rank of 1st Lieutenant; and later Captain upon leaving the Reserves. In 1966 he earned a PhD from LSU in Clinical Psychology. During a 51-year professional career, Tommy was the Chief Psychologist for the Baton Rouge Mental Health Center, Manager of Psychology and Training for the Office of Mental Health and Substance Abuse in the Louisiana Department of Health and Human Resources and maintained a private psychology practice. He also served as Chairman of the LA State Board of Examiners of Psychologists and was an Adjunct Professor at LSU. He was President of both the Division of Psycho-Therapy of the American Psychological Association and Louisiana Psychological Association. He earned many honors and recognitions of merit during his career. He contributed to and edited many psychology books, in addition to authoring numerous articles and professional papers under his own name. Tommy had many interests outside of his professional endeavors. He was a lifelong avid photographer and was past President of the Louisiana Photographic Society. He was active at University, Goodwood and Broadmoor Baptist Churches, where he served as a Deacon, Chairman of Deacons and taught Sunday School. He was a member for many years with the Downtown Kiwanis Club where he was a past President and received a Distinguished Service Award. The full account of both professional and personal accomplishments is too numerous to list. Tommy enjoyed spending time with his family and was a proud grandfather. He loved traveling with his family and photographing the trips. A visitation will be held on October 27 from 5pm to 7pm at the Rabenhorst Funeral Home at 11000 Florida Blvd, Baton Rouge, LA. A visitation will be held at Rabenhorst on October 28 from 12pm to 1pm followed by the funeral service at 1pm. A graveside service will follow immediately at the Greenoaks Cemetery at 9595 Florida Blvd.
