Terry Bridges Brown

Terry Brown was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and uncle. He was a native of Livonia and a longtime resident of Zachary; he passed away Friday, January 30, 2015 at the Carpenter House in Baton Rouge. He was 96 years old. He was a 1939 graduate of Livonia High School, where he was an accomplished track athlete. He also held many occupations over the course of his full life. Growing up in Pointe Coupee Parish, he drove the community school bus and hauled sugar cane. He built Liberty ships for the Delta Shipbuilding Company in New Orleans during World War II. He later worked as a boilermaker at the refinery in Baton Rouge under the corporation names Humble Oil, Esso and finally Exxon. He was also a lifelong horseman and cattleman. Visiting will be at First Baptist Church of Zachary, Monday, February 2, 2015 from 5 pm until 8 pm and Tuesday, February 3, 2015 from 9 am until religious services at 10 am conducted by Rev. Dr. David Womack. Pall bearers will be Tommy, Randal, Clayton, Chance, and Andrew Womack, and Nathan Roose. Interment will follow in Azalea Rest Cemetery in Zachary. He is survived by his three grandchildren, Tommy Womack and wife Diane of Zachary, Randal Womack and fiancée Tami Moreau of Tennessee, and Johnna Roose and husband Nathan of Zachary; nine great grandchildren, Clint, Collins, Caden, Clayton, Chance, Carson, Carter, and Andrew Womack, and Brian Roose; and a sister, Hattie Martin. He was also a beloved 'Uncle Terry' to many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, Thelma Mae, and his daughter, Terry Womack and her husband John A. Womack. The family thanks Kayla Meadows, Jessica Roberts, Vardin Duncan, and the staff of St. Joseph's Hospice and the Carpenter House for their exceptional care to him in the final months of his life.
