Captain Terence "Terry" Timothy Brousseau, aged 71, passed away at his brother Johnny's home in Baton Rouge, surrounded by his family, on Wednesday, February 21, 2024. Terry was born to James Costello Brousseau and Helen Loretta McNelis Brousseau on May 10, 1952 in Baton Rouge, the eighth of thirteen children. He grew up on Glasgow Avenue near Perkins Road and Lee Drive, causing mischief and having fun with his brothers and sisters. He attended St. Agnes, St. Aloysius, Glasgow, Lee High, Baton Rouge High and LSU, making many lifelong friends before embarking on a career in the restaurant business. He opened the Caterie on Perkins Road in 1972, and he and his family operated it with great success and many great times for near twenty-five years. He fell in love with his wife, Patsy Ann Feeney Hill Brousseau, in the spring of 1997; they were married on July 3, 2000 and lived a life filled with fun and a marriage filled with love for another twenty-four years. He loved boats and fishing, becoming a boat captain in 1999 and operating O'Brien's Charters with his wife Patsy on the Gabriella out of Venice, Louisiana for six years, until it came to an abrupt end after Venice marina was totally destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. After Hurricane Katrina, he and Patsy moved from Baton Rouge to Chipola, Louisiana in St. Helena Parish on a very well manicured, picturesque ten acres that was formerly a horse farm. Terry and Patsy then started Brousseau Retrievers, raising and training Chesapeake Bay Retrievers, beginning with the beloved matriarch, Halloween Honey, and her legendary puppy Buddy, champion competition retrievers, incredible duck dogs and loving members of the family. Terry also started Gemstone Carvers in 2013, after his sister, Frances, introduced him to gemstone cutting and carving. For several years, Terry created beautiful pieces of jewelry, gemstone handled hunting knives, cutlery sets, and gemstone grips for 1911 pistols. Terry was a loving son to his mother and father, a loving father to his sons, Jacques Brousseau, Clayton Hill and Cheston Hill, a loving grandfather to his two grandsons, Micah and Christian, and a loving brother to all of his siblings. His love for his family and friends was boundless, as was his love for dogs, boats, hunting, fishing, good food and fun. He enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his sons, grandsons and numerous nephews and great nephews, teaching them all he could. Terry was preceded in death by his parents, James and Helen Brousseau, three brothers, Andre, Mack and Dennis, three sisters, Honor, Beth and Bridget, and three nephews, Dirk, Andre and Joe Buddy. He is survived by his wife, Patsy, his three sons, Jacques (Sarah), Clayton and Cheston, his two grandsons who were the light of his life, Micah and Christian, his older brother Johnny (Debbie), his younger brother Brien (Kristi), his youngest brother Kevin, his older sisters Frances and Lollie, his younger sister Aileen (Michael), and many beloved nieces, nephews and great nephews. He is also survived by his beloved Beagle, KeeKee, his beloved Chessies, Doc Holiday and Prim Rose, and his cat, the Outlaw Josie Wales. Terry was surrounded by family and friends right up to the end. Special thanks to Terry's brother, Johnny, and his wife, Debbie, for opening their home and hearts to Terry for his final days. And special thanks to Patsy's brother, Buddy, and sister, Linda, and Linda's husband Carell, and Kristi for all their help during Terry's final days, as well as all the Brousseaus and all the Feeneys, both in Baton Rouge and elsewhere, who poured their hearts out to Terry. And special thanks to Cheston, who was by Terry's side almost every day from beginning of his illness to his final breath. The family would like to send the deepest thank you to the doctors and staff of the oncology floor at the Baton Rouge General on Bluebonnet, the staff at the Butterfly Wing at Baton Rouge General Mid-City and all of the nurses and staff at the Hospice of Baton Rouge for their amazing warmth, caring compassion and kindness. Terry's wishes were to have his ashes kept until his wife joins him, and then have both of their ashes scattered at sea. A funeral service led by Father Jeff Bayhi will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 2, 2024 at Rabenhorst Funeral Home on Government Street (address 825, zip code 70802). Family and Friends are invited to visit beginning at 10:00 a.m. until service begins. In lieu of flowers, Donations are suggested to Obedience 2 Death Ministries, 30990, La. Highway 16, Denham Springs, LA 70726, The Hospice of Baton Rouge, or a charity of choice.
