Stephanie Kay (Cook) Hutchinson passed away peacefully on October 27, 2015 at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, at the age of 53, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was a native of Gretna and a resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Stephanie was born on July 8, 1962 in Thibodaux, Louisiana, to Van and Kathleen Cook. She grew up in Gretna, Louisiana and graduated from Archbishop Blenk High School in Gretna in 1980. She attended University of Southeastern Louisiana in Hammond for one year and Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge for two years before transferring to Charity Hospital School of Nursing in New Orleans, where she graduated in 1986 as a Registered Nurse. Stephanie began her career as an R.N. at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge, where she continued to work until her diagnosis of Lymphoma in June of this year. Stephanie received Critical Care Nursing Certification (CCRN), and spent many years working in the Cardiac Intensive Care and Cardiac Surgical Units at OLOL. She was an excellent, dedicated nurse and compassionate caregiver, and made a difference in the lives of many people fortunate enough to have had her in their lives. Stephanie was a loving daughter, wife and sister, a cherished loyal friend, neighbor and co-worker, and first and foremost a wonderful mother to her three children. She loved to entertain family and friends, especially during the holidays. She fought courageously until the end, rarely complained, and never expressed any self-pity. Her thoughts and concerns were for her husband and children. Stephanie is survived by her husband, Thomas Hutchinson, who remained by her side and cared for her to the end; daughters Laura Durio and her boyfriend Joey LaCour, Miles Durio, and Emily Durio, and their father Joe Durio, all of Baton Rouge; parents Van and Kathleen Cook and sisters Elizabeth "Betsy" Cook and Melanie Cook, all of Gretna; sister Caroline Gernhauser (Rick) and nephew Henry Gernhauser of New Orleans; and sister Sally (Dykes) Smith and nephews John Robert Smith and Hunter Smith of Ruston; her in-laws Charles and Edith Hutchinson of Baton Rouge, brother-in-law Charles Hutchinson (Tracy) of Prairieville, and sister-in-law Kimmel Williams (Dale) of Gonzales; along with numerous Aunts, Uncles, cousins, and friends, and her children's honorary grandmother Linda Pate of Denham Springs. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents Andrew and Marie Coignet Beary of Thibodaux, Louisiana, paternal grandparents Roy and Willie Leona Parker Cook of Bossier City, Louisiana, and niece Annie Smith of Ruston. Visitation will be on Thursday, October 29, 2015 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Rabenhorst Funeral Home at 825 Government Street, Baton Rouge. Visitation will also be held on Friday at 9 a.m. at St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church, 9150 Highland Road, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m., celebrated by Rev. Trey Nelson. Burial will follow at Roselawn Cemetery, 4045 North Street, Baton Rouge. Tommy and the family would like to thank the doctors and staff at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital and Cancer Center for their attentive treatment, and the outpouring of prayers, support, and love from friends.
