"Shirley Claire Paxton "Mimi" Stirling, a native and resident of Baton Rouge, died March 13, 2018, at the age of 83. She worked as an administrative assistant at Louisiana State University, where she retired from the Public Relations department in 1987. Following her retirement, she enjoyed serving at Broadmoor Presbyterian Preschool. A member and former deacon at First Presbyterian Church, she was involved in literary clubs, and was also active in the A.J. Chapter of the P.E.O. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Louis West Stirling; sister-in-law, Betty Stirling; brother-in-law, Lawrence Stirling; daughter, Barrie Stirling Willis (Rev. Chan Willis, Sr.) of Lake Charles; daughter, Susan Stirling McKey (John I. McKey, Jr.) of Centreville, MS; and daughter, Claire Stirling Welsh (Dr. John Welsh, Jr.) of Goldsboro, NC. Mimi, as she was lovingly known, is also survived by 8 grandchildren: Chandler and Claire Willis; Christine and Jon Bothel of King George, VA; Cate Willis; Lauren and Thomas Mott of Brandon, MS; Dr. Elizabeth McKey of Jackson, MS; Jack and Annie Welsh of Durham, NC; Stirling Welsh of Goldsboro, NC; Alex Welsh of Goldsboro, NC; and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Doss Richardson Paxton and Thelma Granger Paxton; and a daughter, Lawrie Linfield Stirling. A visitation will be held on Saturday, March 17, 2018, in the Reception Room at First Presbyterian Church from 10:00 am until the memorial service to be held in the Dunham Chapel at 11:00 am, to be led by Rev. Dr. Gerrit Dawson and Rev. Chandler Willis, Sr. The family would like to thank Amedisys Hospice for the wonderful care of Mimi.
