A wonderful husband, son, and father, and loyal friend to many, Shelby Harris died Sunday, August 24, 2014. Born in Baton Rouge on April 24, 1950, he was a lifelong resident of this community. He is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Milton L. Harris and was married to Chris Thompson Harris of Baton Rouge for 42 years. He was a graduate of Baton Rouge High School and attended LSU. Shelby was best known in the community for his founding roles in Classic Fabrics and Shelby&Co. Catering and his creation of"Shelby's Famous Chicken Salad". In recent years, his favorite hobby was painting which brought him great joy. He loved people and was a friend to all; he will be deeply missed. Shelby was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Cole Main; his stepfather, Dr. Milton L. Harris; his brother, Tim Main; and his nephew, Cole Main. He is survived by his mother, Nita Kidd Harris; his wife, Chris Harris; his son and daughter-in-law, Hayes and Jill Harris; his daughter and son-in-law, Christine and Stephan Roux; his granddaughter, Shelby Elizabeth Roux; his brother, Dr. Milton L. Harris, Jr. of New Orleans and his family; and his sister-in-law, Julie Main Roper. Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 26th from 5:00 to 7:00pm at Rabenhorst Funeral Home on Government Street. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, August 27th at St. James Episcopal Church in downtown Baton Rouge at 10:30am with visitation at the church from 9:30am until the service begins. The burial service will follow at Grace Episcopal Church Cemetery in St. Francisville. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Pennington Biomedical Research Foundation for Diabetes Research, Baton Rouge Green, or your local charity of preference. The Harris family would like to thank the physicians, nurses, and staff at Our Lady of the Lake for the gentle, kind care during Shelby's last days.
