Rufus M. Millburn was born April 7, 1919 on a farm near Blackburn, OK. On September 22, 2013 at the age of 94, he joined his Lord along with the love of his life, Floyd Dorothy Millburn and his loving family members who preceded him to Heaven.
Rufus was an Army Air Force veteran of WWII serving as 1st Lieutenant of the 9th Air Force 344th bomb wing. Prior to his overseas deployment in Europe, he met his love of 60 years, Army nurse, Floyd Dorothy Walton at Kelly Field Air Force Base in San Antonio.
As a resident of Baton Rouge, Rufus worked and retired from Ethyl Corporation after 28 years. During that time at Ethyl, he traveled extensively. He visited 49 of the 50 states and at least 36 different countries. Along with a love of traveling, Rufus enjoyed seafood boils with his family and friends, and the art of wood crafting.
He is survived by his daughter, Melissa Millburn Kogler and husband Scott; a son, Chess Millburn and wife Linda; four grandchildren, Daniel Kogler and wife Katie, Allison Millburn, Laura Kogler Evers and husband Christian, and Tara Millburn; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A special thank you to Dr. Patrick Gahan and his staff; Amedisys Home Health nurses, Tiffany and Dusty for the exceptional care; Ella Owens, not only a care-giver, but also a dear friend; and daughter in law, Linda Millburn.
Visitation will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 25th, 6:00pm to 8:00pm. Visitation will resume on Thursday, September 26th at 9:00am with funeral service starting at 10:00am. Interment will follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park. Pallbearers are Scott Kogler, Daniel Kogler, Chess Millburn, Joel Thompson, Ronald Millburn and Jim Thompson; and honorary pallbearer is J.C. Millburn.
If desired, donations may be made in memory of Mr. Millburn to Broadmoor United Methodist Church.
