Rosa B. Olivier, born in Merida, Yucatan on March 26, 1925, a resident of Baton Rouge for 60 years, passed away peacefully in her home at the age of 98 on Wednesday morning, November 15, 2023. Rosa was a loving mother and grandmother to many more than her own children and a friend to all. Her hospitality, joy, and fullness of life and love will be missed dearly by those who knew and loved her. Her favorite things were her love of God and a devotion to the Blessed Mother and Padre Pio, her large extended family and her many friends. She was an active member of St. Thomas More Parish since 1963 and a member of the Sharp Homemakers Club. Her hobbies and interests included sewing, quilting, gardening, watching sports, playing Bridge with her friends, reading the newspaper daily, and many ministries through her church. She was most proud of the day that she became a U.S. citizen. She was “Mimi” to more than her own grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her gifts to those who knew her were her compassionate love and her laughter, her cooking, her warm welcoming home, the sparkle in her eyes, her smile and her joy of life.
She is survived by her four children: Paul J. Olivier (Evelyn), Estella Champion, Rosanne Kirby (Mike), and Felix “Feechie” L. Olivier, Jr. (Mickie); 11 grandchildren: Christopher Champion (Ana), Anna Courville (Jeffery), Beau Champion (Jenny), Elizabeth Kisiel (Rob), Allison Call (Shea), Nicholas Olivier (Teresa), Travis Kirby (Kate), Emily Kantor (AJ), Sarah King (Cody), Steven Olivier (Laura), and Katie Hanel (Matthew), 22 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews and their families, especially Carmen LaCoste and Helene Dicorte. She is preceded in death by her husband Felix L. Olivier, Sr.; her parents Peter Gonzalez and Maria Elena Arce de Gonzalez; her sisters Helen Vaughn and Ana Maria Plauche; and her little brother Peter Gonzalez; and son-in-law Robert A. “Buddy” Champion.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 25, 2023 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church from 10 a.m. until noon. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at noon, officiated by the Rev. Michael Allelo. The graveside service and burial will follow at Greenoaks Cemetery.
