Robert Anthony "Bob" Fernandez passed away peacefully on February 27, 2015 in the company of his loving wife and devoted family. Born March 31, 1930 in New Orleans, he was a long time resident of Baton Rouge. Fernandez was one of four children. After graduating from Catholic High School, he attended seminary, but when his father died, he returned home to help support the family. He soon married his childhood sweetheart, Patricia Arnold, who grew up across the street from him near Downtown Baton Rouge. Fernandez is survived by his wife of 61 years, Patricia, and their seven children; Phyllis, William (wife, Cindy Scott), Anne, John, (wife Tamara), Mark, Paul (wife Laura) and Mary; grandchildren Casey, Nicolas (wife Haley), Ethan, Jake, Madeline, Amelia, and Layne; brothers Gerald (wife Pauline); sister-in-law Janet Hingle; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother Justin and his sister Gloria Ottnot. Bob served in the United States Navy during the Korean conflict. He was a very active member of the Monsignor Gassler Assembly of Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, and he was a past Grand Knight of Mother of Mercy Council 4030. A professional claims adjuster, he was retired from Gallagher Bassett Services and served several years as president of the Baton Rouge Claims Association. For decades he enjoyed singing in the choir at St. George Catholic Church where he was also an usher. Visitation is Tuesday evening, March 3, from 6-8pm at Greenoaks Funeral Home, and Wednesday, at St. George Catholic Church 7808 St. George Drive, Baton Rouge, from 9am until Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30am, followed by a short graveside service at Greenoaks.
