Dr. Robert E Feldman, 89, passed away November 25, 2021. Dr. Feldman actively practiced medicine through the pandemic until the age of 88 culminating in 66 years of medical experience and service to the community. A lifelong love of baseball began for Dr. Feldman who, born in St. Louis in 1932, grew up rooting on the Cardinals during their golden era.
After his family moved to Baton Rouge, Dr. Feldman graduated from Baton Rouge High in 1948 at the age of 16 and then completed his undergraduate degree at LSU by the age of 19. He received his medical training at LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans and graduated in 1955. Dr. Feldman was a resident at Charity Hospital in New Orleans before joining the United States Air Force (Medical Corps) at the rank of Captain in 1957.
Dr. Feldman opened his pediatric practice on Winbourne Avenue in Baton Rouge where he provided care to the community for over 50 years. He treated children who grew and returned with their children who grew and returned with their children to their family’s trusted pediatrician, Dr. Feldman. When it came to LSU baseball and basketball, Dr. Feldman could be counted on to be in attendance. He enjoyed being part of the Coaches Committee and Tip Off Club in support of his teams. He was once honored to throw out the ceremonial first pitch in recognition of his record number of consecutively attended home games. Geaux Tigers.
Dr. Feldman leaves behind his children: Keith Douglass, David Feldman, Devorah Feldman, Molly Lockwood, Nicholas Feldman, and stepdaughter Tricia Sauer. As well as his dear friends, the Dave Family. He will be remembered fondly as “Zayda” by his dozen grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved when Sinatra sang it— so let the record show, he did it his way.
A memorial gathering for Dr. Feldman will be held Friday, December 17, 2021 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM followed by a memorial service at 1:00 PM at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd, Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70815.
