Arretta “Rita” Batson Perkins, a resident of Baton Rouge, LA, was born on November 13, 1927, in Columbia, LA, and left this earth to rejoice for eternity in the house of the Lord on Monday, April 2, 2018, at the age of 90. Rita graduated from Ward 5 High School in Caldwell Parish, LA, in 1944 and from Alexandria Business College in 1948. After college, she worked as a secretary in Alexandria, LA, where she met and married the love of her life, J.B. Perkins. Rita and J.B. moved to Lake Charles, LA, in 1953, where they welcomed their three children into the world and finally settled in Baton Rouge, LA, in 1965. A longtime member of Comite Baptist Church, Rita was a devout Christian who enjoyed spending her days in service of her Lord and caring for her family and friends. She was an incredibly strong woman with a smile that would light up the darkest of rooms, a laugh that was contagious and a heart of gold. She was always eager to lend a helping hand, extend a comforting embrace or offer a listening ear. She was one in a million and will be deeply missed by many. Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Becky Debetaz and husband, Tommy; her son, Don Perkins; four grandchildren, Hank Hughes and wife, Jenni, Ross Perkins, Brian Debetaz and wife, Jessica, and Nicole Perkins; nine great-grandchildren; niece, Josette Williams; and nephew, John McDaniel. Rita is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, J. B. Perkins; her son, David Perkins; her grandson, Kurt Perkins; and her parents, Luther Batson and Myrt Butts. Visitation will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA, on Saturday, April 7, 2018, from 8:00AM until the time of funeral service at 10:00AM. Burial will immediately follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park.
