Richard P. Gill, age 82, died peacefully at his home on Wednesday, November 29, 2017, after a 2-year battle with cancer. He was an Air Force veteran and a retired USL/UL professor in Curriculum and Instruction. Mr. Gill was also a psychologist who worked with the Lafayette Parish School Board, the Lafayette Juvenile Detention Center, as well as the Louisiana State Penitentiary. He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Janie Spaht Gill of Baton Rouge; his daughter, Dena Gill Simard and her husband, Thomas (both of Youngsville); his two beautiful granddaughters, Jenna Simard and Laura Simard of Fort Worth, TX. He also leaves behind a sister-in-law, nieces and nephews from his birth state of Minnesota. Dick, as he was known to family and friends, never met a stranger and was known for his sense of humor and his compassion for others. He was also man who loved life and God. Those who knew him, loved him.
