"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have remained faithful. 2 Timothy 4:7 On Monday, August 20, 2018, surrounded by loving family members, Marvin Collins finished his race at the age of 69 at MD Anderson Cancer Center. His faithfulness to his family, his friends, and the Kingdom of God created an eternal legacy. He was a graduate of Louisiana State University and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He served as pastor of Grosse Tete Baptist Church, First Baptist Church of Springfield, and then Park Forest Baptist Church where he served for 20 years. During the 17 years he successfully fought cancer, he continued to serve as a friend, counselor, mentor, interim pastor and prison Chaplain. The consistency of his love of Jesus and his compassion for people made a lasting impact on the lives of countless individuals. He is preceded in death by his father Rev. Jack Glen Collins and mother Betty Donovan Collins. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Carla Daniel Collins. He is also survived by his children, Jackie Collins Hall and husband Mark, Sean Mark Collins and wife Becky; grandchildren Landon Collins and wife Madeline, Kaitlyn and Christian Hall, and Raven and Gage Collins; sisters Carolyn Collins and husband Dale, and Bonnie Mitchell. He also leaves behind numerous beloved nieces, nephews and brothers and sisters in Christ. A celebration of his life will be held at Rabenhorst East Funeral Home beginning with visitation on Friday, August 24 from 5:00 until 8:00 pm and from 9:00 am until services begin at 11:00 on Saturday, August 25, 2018. Burial will follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center.
