"Surrounded by love and family Ramona "Mona" Raymond Hunter died peacefully on August 27th in her home. Mona was born on March 30, 1917, in Rayne, LA to the late Adeline and Antoine Raymond. She graduated from LSU in Baton Rouge in 1935. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Davidson Hunter, her sons, John Davidson Hunter, MD., Raymond K. Hunter, DDS., and grandson John Davidson Hunter III, PHD. Her memory will be forever cherished by her children: Diane Hunter and her children, Kevin Hunter, Mark and Jill Hunter and their children; Jake and Haylen, Scott and Denton Hunter and their children; Brady and soon to arrive McLain. Sara Wolfe and her children; Layne and Gary Gambel and their children; Elizabeth, Sara, and Ellen, Mary Hunter and her husband Bryan McCann and their children; Booker and Seamus. Miriam Sierig and her children; Rahel, Ava and Clara. These ones are additionally joined by many other dearly loved nieces and nephews. Many thanks to Nursing Care Connections and a special thanks to her caregivers, Glenda, Sallie, Paula, Taletha, Magdalane, and Rosa. Gran-Mona, as she was affectionately called had a passion for life, a love of learning, and reading books. In addition, her incredible love of music was infectious to all who knew her. At 99 and ½, she was a force to be reckoned with "“ her wisdom was woven through the generations that came after her. She lived by her motto, to always look forward and never look back. Her passion for life, learning and love for others was a bar set high that we all strive to follow. A celebration of her richly lived life and abiding faith will be held at Rayne Cemetery in Rayne, Louisiana at 11:00 am on Saturday, September 3rd, with a graveside service.
