Born Nov. 10, 1913, she was preceded in death by her parents, Vito and Mary Roppolo. She was a lifelong resident of Baton Rouge and survived by her loving spouse, Carl E. Courtney. She passed away at Ollie Steele Burden Manor on Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2008, following a lengthy illness. She is also survived by her daughter, Mae Wethey, of Baton Rouge; and son, Carl Catania and his wife, Linda, of Edmond, Okla. She has five grandchildren, three living in Baton Rouge, Ronald W. Amoroso Jr. and his wife, Allison, Angela "Angel" Amoroso and Melanie M. Ward and her husband, Joshua; and two grandchildren in Oklahoma, Anthony Todd Catania and his wife, Skyler, and Dana L. Thomas and her husband, Joe. Her great-grandchildren who reside in Baton Rouge are Ronald W. III, Blaine and Lauren Amoroso and Brady and Jackson Ward. Her Oklahoma great-grandchildren are Havilah, Kaden, Roma, Keziah and Khloe Catania and Carlie Grace Thomas. She is also survived by two sisters, Sarah Todd and Lena Dias, both of Baton Rouge. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Annie King and Josephine Messina; and five brothers, Joseph, Sam, Anthony, Manuel and Harry Roppolo, who were all Baton Rouge residents. She attended St. Alphonsus Catholic Church for the last 30 years, where she was very active in the Altar Society. One of her great pleasures was selling religious articles at church on Sundays. She was loved as well by sisters-in-law, Eleanor Hall and Doris Parrish, and brothers-in-law, Jay, Herbert and Ivy Courtney. Her great love in life was taking care of her family with her wonderful Italian cooking and the occasional cookie-making gatherings, and especially tending her numerous flower pots and plants. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Friday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., with recitation of the rosary at 6 p.m. Visitation at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church on Saturday from 9 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m., concelebrated by the Rev. Thomas P. Duhé and the Rev. Miles D. Walsh. Entombment in Greenoaks Memorial Park Mausoleum.
