"A resident of Baton Rouge and a native of Norman, OK, passed away Monday, September 12, 2016 at age 91. Peggy is survived by her daughter, Patrice Berry, Denham Springs; son, Doss H. "Buddy" Berry, III, Baton Rouge; daughter in law, Lisa B. Berry, Baton Rouge; grandson, Doss H. Berry IV; granddaughter, Kathleen M. Berry; sister, Patricia A. Wade, Nashville, TN; two nieces, Melissa Crochet, Nashville, TN and Suzanne Ehrlich, Houston, TX; and two first cousins, Scott Thomas Wood, Los Angeles, CA, and DeAuburn Vixie of Seattle, WA. She is preceded in death by her parents, Noble and Ruby Hilsmeyer. Visiting at Dunham Chapel of First Presbyterian Church, 763 North Blvd., Friday, September 16, 2016, from 9:30 am until religious services at 10:30 am officiated by Rev. Jim Solomon. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park. Peggy wanted to thank her Lord Jesus Christ, her parents who loved her for many years, her children who she loved more than blood and bone, her precious friends, Rev. Hawley Wolfe, the late Eugenie "Nenie" East Bujol, the late Gloria McAdams, Thomas "Tommy" Church Nicholls III, and Geraldine Weaver whose friendship and counsel over the years continues today. She always loved her first graders and enjoyed hearing of their successes. She documented these lifetime teacher friends: Miss Doris, Ms. Terry, Ms. Butler, and Ms. Lantz; her college friend, Georgie; and Dr. Kevin Babin, her physician. College life for Peggy began at LSU in the "war years" in 1942 living on campus where she pledged Delta Delta Delta. She majored in Sociology and minored in Speech. While at LSU, she worked in the Speech and Music Library. Her first job was in Christian education at First Presbyterian Church under Dr. Alan Christian. Peggy returned to LSU for an elementary education degree and taught 32 years at St. James Episcopal Day School. She was among ten couples from First Presbyterian Church in the founding of Broadmoor Presbyterian Church.
