Norman Karl Goebel, Jr. passed away at his home on April 9, 2024 at the age of 66. Norman was born on May 25, 1957 in Jefferson Parish, LA. He was a 1975 graduate of Broadmoor High School in Baton Rouge and attended Southeastern University in Hammond, LA. Norman was an inspiration to many who knew him. His success was not derived from material gain, from career success or social status. His success was measured in the helping of others while struggling with mental illness for the past 45 years. Through the fog of mental illness, he would take people to doctors appointments who did not have a car, he would buy Christmas presents for friends kids who did not have the money to buy Christmas presents for them, treat friends to lunch and write letters of encouragement to friends and family members. He was a living example of real success. He will be sorely missed, but we know he is in a much better place. He no longer will have to deal with mental illness and he has been rejoined with his parents, Norman Karl Goebel Sr. and Barbara Sandlin Goebel. He is survived by two brothers and their wives, Charles Goebel (Denny) of Baton Rouge, Byron Goebel (Sally) of Dallas, TX, nephews Jonathan Goebel and Ritchie Goebel, nieces, Sandlin Neely, Allison Goebel and Sarah Goebel, and two aunts, Carolyn Harron, and Rose Lafosse along with numerous cousins.
Visitation will be on April 20 at Rabenhorst East Funeral Home at 11:30a.m. with services in the chapel at 1:00p.m. Burial will follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park. Memorial donations may be made to NAMI (National Alliance for the Mentally Ill), Habitat for Humanity Baton Rouge or a charity of your choice.
