Nancy Feild Albritton was called home to Our Lord on November 5, 2024. She was born on June 5, 1928 to Roscoe and Julia Feild in Muskogee, Oklahoma, but soon moved to Corpus Christi, TX and Austin, Texas where she grew up with her brother, Julian Feild. She received her bachelor's degree in Bacteriology from the University of Texas and started her career in El Paso, Texas, where she met her future husband Oscar Willard Albritton. She and Oscar had one son, Clayton Albritton and two daughters, Mary Merchant and Martha Albritton.
Nancy was a full time homemaker and substitute teacher while raising their three children until the passing of her husband Oscar in 1977. Nancy then returned to school and earned two master's degrees from Louisiana State University in Library Science and Media. She started her 35 year career with East Baton Rouge Parish Library on December 29, 1980.
She loved her work and the people she worked with loved her. Once the time came for her to retire, she stayed retired for about 1 month and then returned to the library as a volunteer. She also volunteered at Magnolia Mound as well as Baton Rouge General Hospital.
Nancy also cherished her relationship with the church and was on the altar guild for 40 years at Trinity Episcopal Church.
She is survived by her three children, Clayton, Martha and Mary; four grandchildren, Samantha Mire, Jonathan Albritton, Maxwell Merchant and Matthew Merchant; and three great grandchildren, Kylie Mire, Macie Mire and Rose Albritton.
A Memorial Service will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church, 3552 Morning Glory Avenue in Baton Rouge, on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, at 10am. Nancy will be buried alongside her husband Oscar at the Alexandria National Cemetery in Alexandria, Louisiana.
