"Miller W. Kerr "Paddy", a native of Baton Rouge, LA and a resident of Richmond, VA for the past seven years, passed away on August 10, 2016 at his home at the age of 82. Miller, known to friends as "Paddy" (nickname originated from his birthday on St. Patrick's Day) was born and raised in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He graduated from Baton Rouge High School. As a teenager, he participated in Boy Scouts, was an Eagle Scout, and spoke fondly of attending Philmont Scout Ranch summer camps with his friends. He graduated LSU with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. He was commissioned into the US Army through ROTC and served in the Ordnance Corps. While on active duty, his duty stations included Aberdeen Proving Grounds, MD, Orleans, France and Germany. He returned to Louisiana after separating active duty and continued to serve in the Army Reserves, eventually attaining the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. A short time after returning to Louisiana, he was transferred to Ohio and then Pennsylvania. He met his wife, Mariella while working in Pittsburg, PA. Miller's proudest accomplishment is being the father of triplets, which defined him and his family. He returned to Baton Rouge soon after the triplets were born to be closer to family and raise his children in the community that he loved. He was a member of Broadmoor Presbyterian Church. He valued civic duty and community service and as such was a life-long and active member of the Edgewater Kiwanis Club. He looked forward to annual summer road trips to national conventions where he brought his family to, providing an enriching experience for his children. He maintained an avid interest in reading, particularly military history, politics, and current world events. He was also a life-long, dedicated LSU football fan and attended home games regularly for many years. He is survived by wife, Mariella Kerr of Richmond, VA; daughters, Kerri Sander of Richmond, VA, Kristi Kerr of Cary, NC; son, Jamie Kerr of Portsmouth, VA; and a sister, Peggy Plunkett and her husband Billy Plunkett of Natchitoches, LA. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mamie Weiners Kerr and by his father, Anthony Pettus Kerr, Sr. He was also preceded in death by his two brothers: Anthony Pettus Kerr, Jr. and Edward Flower Kerr and his wife Audrey Miller Kerr; and by his sister, Juliet Kerr Thees and her husband, Al Thees. Visitation will be Thursday, August 25, 2016 at Rabenhorst Funeral Home Downtown, 825 Government St., from 10am until a funeral service at 11am. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. The family would like to thank Kerri Sander for caring for her father in the final years of his life which allowed him to live comfortably at home despite his chronic medical conditions. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Broadmoor Presbyterian Church, 9340 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA 70815.
