Michael Allen Carmichael, 72, passed away on Friday, February 11. He was born in Oil City, PA, and was a resident of Baton Rouge. He is survived by his daughter, Heather Carmichael Hepburn (Chad Hepburn); and his daughter’s mother, and her mother Carol Batey., as well as his son in law, Chad Hepburn. Mr. Carmichael was a short-story author and novelist, having had three novels and a collection of short stories published. A self-described “car freak,” Mr. Carmichael was a member of the Garden State Chapter of the Pontiac – Oakland Club International, where many of his short stories were published in the organization’s regular newsletter. His writings also were published in numerous magazines, newspapers, and poetry collections, including “The Advocate” and “Car and Driver.” Mr. Carmichael also was a classic film buff and loved old musicals starring Gene Kelley, Ginger Rogers, and Doris Day. His other hobbies included reading classic literature and poetry, including the works of William Shakespeare, Elizabeth Barret Browning, and Robert Burns. He was an animal lover and lifelong supporter of wildlife conservation and dog rescue. Mr. Carmichael was an honest man and deeply loved and loved by those who were close enough to call him a friend. A private memorial will be held in his hometown of Oil City, PA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or a local humane society.
