It is with much sadness and joy that we announce the passing of our mother, Mary Evans McDowell Smith at age 91. Sadness because we will miss her; joy because we know she is at the feet of Jesus. She was born October 29, 1923 in Tela, Honduras to the late Vera H and George E Evans. In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by infant son, Michael K McDowell; first husband, Robert E McDowell (Bob); second husband, Robert H Smith (Bob); brother, Blanton Evans; and sister, Gladys Blackmon. Survived by son Scott E McDowell and wife Beth of Baton Rouge; son Gordon D McDowell and wife Tammy of Baton Rouge; five grandchildren; Christopher R McDowell and wife Rachel of Gonzales; Kara McDowell Cambre and husband Jason of Denham Springs; C Trafton McDowell; Taylor L McDowell; and Kirsten L McDowell, all of Baton Rouge; and four incredible great grandchildren; Braydn and Elliot Cambre; and Bowen and Macklyn McDowell. Visitation will be from 10:00am until service at 12:00pm November 18 at Greenoaks Funeral Home; burial to follow in Greenoaks Memorial Park. The family wishes to express heartfelt thank the staffs at The Haven at Windemere; Jefferson Manor Nursing Home; Hospice of Baton Rouge; and Dr Gerald Barber for making mom’s final days as comfortable as possible.
