Mary passed away at her home in Prairieville surrounded by her family on Saturday, December 10, 2011. She was 94. Mary and her late husband owned and operated Smith’s Supermarket in Baton Rouge. Mary was a long-time employee of Giamanco’s restaurant before retiring to her country home where she enjoyed many years of gardening and poultry farming. She was also a proud member of the American Legion Gold Star Mothers of Gonzales. Visitation will be at Greenoaks Funeral Home on Wednesday December 14, 2011 from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm visitation will resume on Thursday December 15, 2011 at 8:00 am until funeral services in the funeral home chapel at 10:00 am. Interment will follow in Greenoaks Memorial Park. Survived by three sons and four daughters- in-law, Carey S. Smith, Prairieville, James and Sonya Smith, St. Gabriel, Joseph and Kathy Smith, Galvez, Diane Smith Luzena, Baker, and Shelia Cotton Smith, Meadville Miss; two daughters and one son-in-law, Dixie Clark, Denham Springs, and Margaret and Vasilis Sideris, Prairieville; one sister Jane Gegenheimer, Leeville, La.; 20 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her husband, Carey E. Smith; sons Floyd E. and Francis E. Smith; parents, John Floyd and Francis Cook Hurst; five sisters and three brothers; and one son-in-law, James E. Clark. She was dearly loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed.
