"Mary Alice Christophe Saizon, a resident of Baton Rouge, LA passed away peacefully surrounded by family on June 3, 2018 at the age of 77. She was born on February 8, 1941 in Erwinville, Louisiana, the daughter of Lucien Walker and Eva Christophe. Mary Alice attended Rosenwald High School in New Roads, LA where she later became a wife and mother of three children; later widowed. After becoming a widow, Mary Alice's passion for helping others led her into the medical field where she became a Certified Nursing Assistant. She continued her education by training to become a Medical Technician and EMT, but ultimately chose family over her career by again becoming a wife, homemaker, and mother to four children. Mary Alice continued this legacy of love and support by helping raise her granddaughter, Crystal. Mary Alice was a very strong-willed woman with a sharp mind. Her hobbies were reading, gardening, cooking, keeping an immaculate home, praying, and listening to all genres of music. She loved praise and worship music the most as it moved her closer to God. Mary Alice Christophe Saizon's protective and loving spirit will be sadly missed by: her six children- Kevin (Rachel) Christophe, Mary Frances Matthews, Sonia (Elliot) Saizon Guillory, Angela (D'Andre Sr.) Saizon Creer, John D.(Chenary) Saizon Jr. and Mark "Phillip" (Cathy) Saizon ; her twelve grandchildren - Crystal Matthews Manning, who she helped raise and reared as her own, Joshua Matthews, Eletta Guillory, Elliot Guillory Jr., D'Andre Creer Jr., Lillian Creer, Shawn Saizon Sr., Shane Saizon, John D. Saizon III, Macey Saizon, Devon Saizon, Kailee Saizon, and Taylor Saizon; her ten great grandchildren; her aunt Mary "Nannie" Nelly Belle Christophe; her brother, Malcolm "Mac-K" Christophe; her sister, Kristine Christophe; as well as a host of nephews, nieces, and other family members and friends. She was preceded in death by: her mother, Eva Christophe; her father, Lucien Walker; her first husband, Floyd Matthews; her son, Keith Matthews; her brother, John Christophe; her aunts, Harriet Christophe and Gertrude Christophe; and her uncles Rogers Christophe, Murphy Christophe, Patin Christophe, Golden Walker, Neil Christophe, Wilbert Christophe, and Leo Christophe. Special acknowledgements to: her neighbors, Mr. Lee, Ms. Wanda, and Mr. Jeremy; a family friend, Errol; and special friends Beth and Mr. Kenneth O'Banion. Special thanks to the staff at St. Joseph Hospice who took excellent care of her, especially Nurses Terri, Justina, and Nicole. Visitation will be held at St. Gerard Majella Catholic Church, 5354 Plank Road in Baton Rouge on Saturday, June 16, from 9:00 a.m. until a Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. Burial and Repast to follow at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 809 New Roads Street in New Roads.
