Mary Elizabeth Perritt Lee, born December 14, 1944, passed away on Saturday, June 26, 2021, after a lengthy illness in Baton Rouge, LA. Her devoted husband whom she adored, Douglas Lee, was with her throughout her struggle. Elizabeth, a lifetime educator, retired from Baton Rouge Community College as the Associate Dean/Associate Professor of the Academic Learning Center after 13 years of service. She earned an undergraduate degree in English Education (1966) and a master’s degree in Liberal Arts (1967) from Northeast Louisiana State University. She taught English at various schools throughout her career and had a major impact on her students. Her students continued to have contact with her throughout the years to present. She later moved to her position at the Baton Rouge Community College and enthusiastically set upon the development of her unit to provide the enrollees with assistance in all areas of tutoring and adjustment to college. She was always ready to take the extra step to provide guidance support and encouragement. Elizabeth was an example of professionalism. She lived her life openly and in search of knowledge. She was a problem solver, a leader and a group facilitator. In retirement, she continued her love of English by composing and publishing four books of poetry: “Beveled Edges and Mitered Corners Poems”, “Shards of Light and Threads of Thought”, “In a Quiet Moment” and “Letters from Eros”.
