

Our beloved mother, Marie Louise Dugas Dupre, passed away peacefully December 29, 2022 at the age of 91. She was born on June 22, 1931, in Donaldsonville, La., the eighth of 11 children and the last child to be reunited with her cherished Dugas family. She said she had a “wonderful childhood, as a cheerleader, choir member and tennis player. She graduated from St. Vincent Institute, now Ascension Catholic School, as valedictorian of her class. Marie later moved to Baton Rouge and married Frederick C. Dupre. She’s predeceased by Fred (2014 ), after 61 years of marriage. She is also preceded in death by her son-in-law, Charles E. Harper, Jr. (2008).
Marie loved her family immensely and will be remembered for her unwavering kindness to all. She retired in 1992 from LSU Law Center as a coordinator for professional development. Marie was a devout Catholic, attending daily mass, weekly adoration, serving on the Our Lady of Mercy prayer line and volunteering faithfully, for many years, at the St. Vincent de Paul Store. Her interests were gardening, reading, and fun times with her dear friends, The Golden Girls and of course family gatherings.
She is survived by her daughters, Lydia Young (Tom), Renee Harper Richter (Tim), sons, Rick Dupre and Bret Dupre (Lisa), grandchildren, Joshua (Holly) and Benjamin Young (Mandy), Charlie (Brandi) and Bryan (Amy) Harper, Holly Dupre Kelley (Brandon), Garon Leblanc (Leslie) and 12 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, 445 Marquette Avenue, Baton Rouge, La., on January 3, 2023, from 1:00 pm -2:00 pm with a Mass of Christian burial beginning at 2:00 pm, celebrated by her nephew, Fr. Gerald Burns. Interment will immediately follow at Green Oaks Memorial Park, 9595 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge, La.
