A U.S. Air Force serviceman with 31 years of service, he passed away at 9:30 p.m.Sunday, Dec. 3, 2006, at his home. He was 82, a native and resident of Baton Rouge. He is survived by his wife, Vera Sylvester Herthum; daughter and son-in-law, Mary Claire Herthum Major and Rick Major; son, Louis Whitney Herthum; stepson, Greg Soileau and wife Lori Soileau; stepdaughter, Jaune Canter; sister, Frances Lewis and husband George; and grandchildren, Whitney and Alex Major, Blakely and Stephen Soileau, Lee Elgin and Lisa Canter. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Denise and Diana Herthum; stepson, Jeffery Ansley; and a brother, Harold Herthum.
