Milfred Louise McGarrahan Smith, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away at the age of 100. She was a native of Many, Louisiana and graduated from Northwestern State University. She and her husband, Willard Wilson Smith "Bill" were married 52 years and lived most of their lives in Franklin where she taught for 40 years. She has three sons and a daughter, Rodney Smith (Kathy), Gerard Smith (Debbie), Dennis Smith and Cindy Shepard (Greg). Her grandchildren are Karlyn Sherwin, Brittany Anders, Kristen Root, Matthew Smith, Nicholas Smith, Hilary Hunt, Rachel Jones, Katie Peterson, Scott Shepard, Caroline Smith, Russell Drinkard and Lauren Zollinger. To her twelve grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren, she is known as Mawmaw. She loved them all and followed their activities like she followed her beloved LSU sports. She was an avid reader, reading a book or two each week. She will be missed by all that knew her.
The family wishes to thank all the staff at St. James Place for their loving care and involvement with our family. In lieu of flowers, Louise would appreciate gifts to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
Pallbearers will be Greg Shepard, Scott Shepard, Matt Root, Jackson Root, Jacob Root, Matt Smith, Nick Smith, and Russ Drinkard.
Visitation will be on Thursday, April 11, 2024, at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd, from 12pm until service at 2pm. Interment will follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park, 9595 Florida Blvd.
