Mary Louise Berthelot Serio passed away at her home peacefully with her loving and devoted husband by her side on Monday, Jan. 23, 2012, at age 84. She was a resident of Baton Rouge and native of Morganza. Visitation at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., on Wednesday, Jan. 25, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., with a recitation of the rosary at 7 p.m. Visitation at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church on Thursday, Jan. 26, from 9:30 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Michael J. Moroney, celebrant. Burial in Greenoaks Memorial Park. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Vincent Joseph Serio, of Baton Rouge; sons, Darryl Serio and Kevin Serio; daughters, Terri S. and husband Gerald Laird, and Angela S. Browning; brothers, J.D. Berthelot Jr. and Willie M. Berthelot; and six grandchildren, Cassie L. Kahn, Lauren E. Laird, Jeremy M. Laird, Chase Browning, Jansen Browning and Joshua Browning. Preceded in death by her parents, Joseph D. and Edith B. Berthelot; and sisters, Irma B. Ortis, Amy B. LeCoq, Grace B. Samples, and Mary Lelia B. Cifreo. As a devoted member of the Catholic Church, she was a lector and eucharistic minister for St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Baton Rouge and a choir member of St. Alphonsus in Greenwell Springs. She was a longtime member and past regent of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court 1608, member of the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary No. 2087, and the St. Alphonsus Altar Society. Some of her many joys included being with family and friends, traveling, singing, growing beautiful flowers, especially roses, baking special deserts, and celebrating all of life's opportunities. Pallbearers are Chase Browning, Jansen Browning, Gerald Cifreo, Mike Serio, Lynn Serio and Chad Serio. Honorary pallbearer is Joshua Browning.
