Loretta Rose Calvit passed away peacefully at St Joseph's Hospice, at The Carpenter House in Baton Rouge on Monday August 1, 2022. Born on November 22, 1939, she was 82. She grew up in Baton Rouge playing softball in the field next to our house with neighborhood kids. She rode her bike up and down North Blvd with no worries. In her teens she was a dedicated member of the Catholic Youth Organization at Sacred Heart Church. She played competitive softball for the CYO and she enjoyed CYO dances as well. She worked as an accountant/office manager at several Baton Rouge businesses. She started at Jack's Cookies and to her siblings' delight often brought home bags of cookies from the company store. She and friends enjoyed bowling, fishing, target practice, photography and traveling. She loved flying small aircraft and spent many happy days learning how to fly and taking friends and family on little trips. She loved LSU Tigers football and baseball, New Orleans Saints, and of course, the Cincinnati Bengals with Joe Burrow. She seldom missed a game. The happiest day of her life was when she found her son, Joey, who had been adopted at birth. Retta was so grateful to find that his parents, Ed and Pat Mayeaux had raised Joey to be a good, kind and gentle man.
Loretta is survived by her son Joey Mayeaux (Amanda), granddaughters Kate Hammond (Cody) and their daughter Henley, and Jacqueline Mayeaux. Sisters Martha Daniels, Virginia "Ginny" Calvit and Charlotte "Charlye" Calvit, sister-in-law Belinda Jan Calvit, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins who meant the world to her.
Preceded in death by parents Thomas Edgar Calvit and Loretta Mary Arbour Calvit, brothers Thomas O'Malley Calvit (Rosemary), David Brantley Calvit (Amy), sisters Mary Sue Calvit, Lynda Frances Browning (Donald).
