Follower of Christ, Beloved Wife and Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, and Friend went gently home to Heaven on Tuesday, January 15, 2013. Her husband and daughter held her hands declaring their love for her as God, Himself, greeted her home. She loved life, dressing to the nines, colorful things and vibrant living. She loved church. Her heart was to care for others. On sweltering Louisiana days, she greeted the mail truck with a cold drink. She was immediate. This is how she lived. This is how she loved. She used her hands and kisses while surrounding her loved ones with words. Things like, "I love you," were a beginning. But she always went further, was personal and chose to build up each of us to her earthly end. That is her legacy. Laughter was a daily event. At times, we've laughed so hard as to have to leave a restaurant before ordering because we were enveloped in giggles. How she smiled with blue eyes shining! Singing ditties and hymns were daily necessities. Her sense of humor bubbled. Preceded in death by her sweet mother, Dessie DeHart Whitaker of LA, and father, Benjamin Franklin Whitaker of KY; brothers, Ray Whitaker, Murray and Jessie; sister, Opal DeHart. She remembered them all and spoke of them with great love and fondness until the end. Survived by her husband of nearly 41 years, Eddie Jones; children, DeEtte Rabb, Archie M. Rabb III, Ronnie Jones, Mark Jones and Cinda Denoux; 9 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; her dear sister-in-law and childhood friend, Aurelia Whitaker; along with her nephews, her food-cooking sisters-in-law and "sibling" group who plied their home in overwhelming days with banana pudding and all the fixin's; her Sunday School Care Leader, Margaret Windham, who called weekly for years to pray. This week after her hairdo appointment Saturday, she went out to dine with family. Monday, she quoted, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" [Phil. 4:13]. Lived nearly 85 years: born March 2, 1928, eternally home Tuesday, January 15, 2013. Lifelong resident of Baton Rouge; raised in North Highlands; attended Istrouma School. Member of Florida Blvd. Baptist Church. Worked since the 8th grade including at Ethyl then retired from the State Dept. of Elections. Family and friends, your prayers and all you have done and will do to encourage our family has been and still is greatly appreciated. Visitation at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., Friday, January 18, 2013 from 5-8 p.m. Visitation resumes Saturday, January 19, 2013 from 10 a.m. with chapel service at 12 p.m. Graveside remembrance service will follow in Greenoaks Memorial Park. Services to be led by her Pastor, Randy Johnson of Florida Blvd. Baptist Church and Pastor Bill Pruitt of Graceworks Church. Our family pallbearers are Archie M. Rabb, III, Dalton A. Rabb, Matthew Denoux, Michael Denoux, Curtis Whitaker and Terry Whitaker. It will long be said, "She loved us." She loved bananas, too, but loved us all even more. Dearest Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother and Friend, because of your faith in Christ, we have entrusted you into God's Hands. Cannot wait to see you again. Thank you for teaching us how to live and laugh and love in Jesus' Name. We are so very grateful
