She was born in Georgetown, SC, on March 3, 1943. She is preceded in death by her parents Lee Wood Watkins and Marguerite Gordon Watkins; two brothers, Lee Watkins and Robert Watkins; son, Carl Ferguson; and great grandson, Bryce Williams. She is survived by her husband of 64 years William Sidney Ferguson Jr.; two sons, Dr. K Scott Ferguson (Joan) and Darrell Ferguson (Erin); daughter in law, Sharon Williams Ferguson (Carl); eight grandchildren, Barry (Lori), Brian, Jonathan, Ryan, Amanda, Evan, Rachel and Connor; and numerous great grandkids, nieces, nephews and friends.
She spent most of her career at Coca Cola, retiring after 20+ years.
Elizabeth was a poet, an artist, and a skilled craftswoman, she found solace and expression in the realms of words, colors, threads, and fabrics. Her poetry had the power to move hearts, and her visual artistry painted vibrant stories. Her delicate crochets and elegant sewn creations were a testament to her meticulous nature and her ability to bring beauty to every stitch.
Among her numerous accomplishments, Elizabeth's appointment as the Louisiana State Poet Laureate and president of the Louisiana State Poetry Society stands as a testament to her profound impact on the literary landscape. In 1992 in collaboration with her mother, she co-authored a poetry book, “Of Two Magnolias”, a testament to the deep bonds of family and creativity. She also published her own poetry book titled “Through Darkness Comes the Light”.
She held a special place in her heart for her family and friends. She also loved sunflowers, chickens and peacocks, which mirrored her own radiant spirit.
A visitation will be held from 9-10:30 AM on Friday, August 25th, at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., in Baton Rouge, LA. Memorial Service will be held at the Louisiana National Cemetery in Zachary, LA at 11 AM.
