Linda Ledbetter Green, 86, died on Friday, November 24, 2023, having been previously diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease. Linda was born on October 9, 1937 in Ruston, LA, to Edna Nelson Ledbetter and Leslie C. Ledbetter. She was predeceased by her parents and her oldest son, James Dudley Wells. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Ernest Ed Green; her son, Charles L. Wells (Betsy) of Navarre, FL; her daughter, Leslie Green (Griffin Campbell) of Baton Rouge, LA; her grandchildren, Rachel Wells Ecoff (Matt) of New Smyrna Beach, FL; Elise Wells Thigpen (Oliver) of Newport, RI; Rosa Campbell and Alexander Campbell of Baton Rouge, LA; her great-granddaughter, Ava Ecoff, of New Smyrna Beach, FL; her sister, Lillian Magruder of Jackson, MS; and her brother-in-law, Robert Green (Beth) of Austin, AR. Linda had a long career as a chemist with an expertise in Gas Chromatography (GC) working for LSU, GSRI, USL, Ciba-Geigy, Hewlett-Packard, and, ultimately, starting her own company, Chroma-Skills, teaching training courses in GC all over the US. She was the first woman to win the Charles E. Coates Memorial Award in 1993, given annually in recognition of noteworthy contributions to chemistry in the Baton Rouge area by the local chapter of the American Chemical Society. She was actively involved in numerous organizations including: University Presbyterian Church (UPC), Huntington’s Disease Support Group at UPC, LSU Turner-Fisher Center for Opera, and Opéra Louisiane. Linda especially loved classical opera. She traveled extensively with her husband, Ed, and often included others from their larger circle of friends in their travels to cultural and special opera venues in the US and abroad. Linda's greatest joy late in life was her grandchildren. Relatives and friends are invited to attend services at the University Presbyterian Church, 3240 Dalrymple Dr, Baton Rouge 70802 on Saturday, December 9, 2023. Visitation will be at 1PM and the Memorial Service will be at 2PM, followed by a reception in the UPC Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to Opéra Louisiane, LSU Turner-Fisher Center for Opera, Music Club of Baton Rouge, Baton Rouge Opera Guild, Huntington’s Disease Society of America, or to a charity of your choice.
